Society
I believe as a society we have a very big problem. A problem bigger than a city, state, or any single country. We have a culture problem. There is something very wrong with the way we live. I don’t know the meaning of life or why we are here on this planet. We live in a society that says this ” you’re born, you go to school, you work, and lastly you die.” You will have to excuse me if I find something a tad bit wrong with that description. Now obviously there is a little more to it than that. We get to spend time outside of those environments, but in general this is how the bulk of our time is spent while we are alive. You may believe in God, evolution, or that a giant chicken laid an egg and man rolled out of it. No, matter what stance you have on how we got here, you can’t be blind to the fact that we are not spending as we could or should be. Even if you enjoy school or your job, it surely isn’t where you want to spend the majority of your time. It’s my opinion that most of our time should be spent with people that we like and more importantly love instead of trying to make pieces of paper with a number on them. Instead of seeing how big of a house we can have, maybe we should be glad that the sun came up. We spend more time worrying about how much money we have or can get that we don’t even stop to wonder if we will wake up tomorrow to use that money. Can you really blame people for being depressed and turning to drugs and alcohol? Look at the world we live in and it’s a miracle that we aren’t all on something. Almost non stop stress day after day while worrying about the dumbest things. My issue with society goes further than that though. We live in a world that tell that it’s okay to be different, but as soon as someone doesn’t fit the mold, they are torn apart. The world says dare to be a leader and as soon as someone does it proceeds to do its best to knock them back in line. It goes un noticed for the most part because lets face it, we are all preoccupied with what is going on with ourselves. There is no time to fix the problems we have as a world because other than a small comment here or there, no one really sees a problem or the whole problem. The answer to all of these things is simple. It’s so simple that a child could answer it. If the things we do make us unhappy than why don’t we just do what makes us happy. What a radical thought that is. Why not just change the way we live our lives. The reason we don’t change is because it would require us to do something. It would require deeper thinking than what new car we should get. The sad thing is there actually is change occurring for the worse. There was a time where if you had a high school diploma you were successful. It went from that to if you had at least an associates degree you were well off… from there the norm became to have a four year degree…. Now you pretty much need a masters if you want to work a job that you can at least stand and make decent money. Pretty soon you will need a doctrine and from there, I don’t know where we go. I guess we will need to be made part robot. It’s a constant stream of jumping through hoops just to get somewhere that we don’t really want to be, but because of what society has told us it is important and what we should do. Let me emphasize that I know there is more to our lives than these things, but this is the base or the foundation of what we are told and of what almost everyone basis their lives on. I think that is just plain crazy. Society would probably label me crazy for thinking life is more than a paycheck and unoriginal thoughts. Whoever reads this might think I’m crazy, but just examine your life and how you wish you could spend time and how you actually do. What do you think of societies ideals and rules now?
